Using our project management skills, we have successfully delivered projects and advised the carbon offset/credit industry. Our experience is varied and includes:
- Introducing various small-scale VER projects in East Africa for a well known carbon offset company. We were given an initial concept and progressed it through to successful delivery, researching the various technologies, identifying and training suitable local contractors. As a result, we have built a good network of contacts on the ground, with which to roll out further projects.
- Advising several clients on a range of carbon projects, encompassing various standards, including Gold Standard and CDM. The countries we advised in range from South Africa, Turkey, the Far East and Africa.
- Project managing, from conception, all aspects of the construction of a low carbon village in Kenya, which contained additional educational, health, social, environmental and financial benefits to the local community. The client claims that this is the first of its type.
- Installing several small biogas plants around Nairobi and Mombasa.
- Advising the Kenyan Minister of Environment on various environmental issues, and how carbon trading could be of practical use in raising funds for environmental projects in the country.
- Advising on renewable and sustainable technologies in both the UK and overseas.
- Advising on waste management technologies and working with various providers, to use their technologies in the developing world to attract carbon credits.
- We are currently working on CDM project proposals for several major European companies.
- We have been responsible for organising the replacement of older, inefficient equipment in developing countries with low energy alternatives. This includes setting up and running projects, in both the urban slum and rural areas of East Africa, which reduce the amount of wood and charcoal used for cooking.
All our projects to date are additional, i.e. they provide benefits over and above what would have happened in a 'business-as-usual' scenario, including:
- The reduction of widespread deforestation
- Saving villagers considerable time in collecting timber for fuel
- Reduced respiratory illnesses
- Sanitisation of manure close to habitation
- Energy cost savings
- Elimination of fire hazards
The key to most of these projects is good project management; using practical, robust technologies and the strong working relationship our team has built up with these local communities.
